Living matter

Paul Daly, formerly an architect in London, has been working in Barcelona for many years with organic materials.

Wall mounted organic collages lit from behind, and sculptures lit from beneath, form the basis of his work. The natural processes of growth and decomposition, such as life cycle, weathering and bacterial decay, are monitored and halted at different stages in order to obtain a variety of complex effects; the structural integrity of the material, the manipulation of nature, the refabrication of the “overlooked”, the dialoge between positive and negative space, between fragility and strength, and between organic and non-organic all play a fundamental creative role.

The light which passes through the varied organic structures is essentially a catalyst, as in nature, bringing the works to life.
